Red River Emmaus Newsletter
May 2008
April; 30, 2008
Greetings Red River Emmaus Community!
I would like to welcome all of our newest members
from R.R. Women’s Walk #99. I pray that your 4th Days
are going well and that you are getting back into the
flow of life. Hopefully that flow is a little less
stressful and you are still able to feel the presence
of our Lord and Savior as you go through your day.
Remember the importance of a reunion group and get in
to one as soon as possible. This weekly group will
inspire and comfort you as you deal with obstacles in
your daily walk.
I look forward to seeing as many community members as
possible at the upcoming gatherings. These gatherings
are listed with dates and locations in this news
letter. Men, if you feel you are being called to work
the upcoming men’s walk this fall, be sure you get
with the team selection representative for your area.
As you may know we have made a change to how
background is worked on the walks. For the most part
this transition went quite well, although we have a
few minor details to work out before the men’s walk.
I enjoyed seeing many new faces at the events for Walk
#99. Although I did not get a chance to talk with many
of you, and I apologize for that, I want you to know
that I welcome any e-mails or phone calls with
questions or concerns that I may be of help on. Thank
each of you for your participation and I look forward
to talking with you in the future. Our community is
very wide spread and I know it can be hard to attend a
lot of the events and gatherings. The Board has
started to move gatherings around more so you will be
able to be more active.
2nd Corinthians 1:21-22 says "It is God who gives us,
along with you, the ability to stand firm for Christ.
He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as
his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as
the first installment of everything he will give us."
God Bless each of you and your families.

NEWS FROM THE BOARD
I look forward to serving the Red River Emmaus
Community in charge of Set Up and Sponsors Hour. As a
new member of the Board, I am eager to learn and would
welcome any help unloading the trailer and getting the
various items to their proper place on Thursday
afternoons prior to Send Off. It’s a lot of work, but
a labor of love, and a position that I am committed to
for the next three years.
I’m also interested in representing the community in
all aspects of growth and revitalization of the Red
River Community. I welcome comments and concerns and
hope to represent the community’s best interests on
all Board decisions. Please keep all board members in
your prayers as we attempt to adhere to the Upper Room
model while using good judgment and a little common
sense along the way. Feel free to contact me anytime
at 940.631.6910.
De Colores,
Cal Kirk
Dear Community
Red River is in need of a person who will input a mailing list onto an address program (cd) to print labels for our Newsletter. If anyone is interested in volunteering, please call me. This will be a temporary solution for sorting the mailing list until the Board is able to get our Database together. There are about 800 names. Also, if you would like to share news with the Community about your Reunion Group activities, etc, please let me know.

Dear Emmaus Community,
I am honored to be serving on the Emmaus Board, and I
hope to see you all a little more involved than you
were last year. Make plans to attend a Gathering or
sharing your time as a gift of agape on a Walk
weekend. We need your presence and involvement to
build up our Red River Community. It is too valuable
to all of us to allow it to grow stagnant.
When we take the time, I think we can admit Emmaus
brings us joy, energy, and fulfillment.
Recently, in defending the Walk to Emmaus in a group
of clergy, I found myself asking "How has Emmaus
affected my faith journey?" When I think of Emmaus
and how it has impacted my life over the last 20
years, I am proud to say it is all positive. Here are
some of the wonderful gifts Emmaus has given me and my family:
1. Friends. I cannot imagine our lives without our
Emmaus friends and acquaintances. Many from other
churches that I would never have had the opportunity
to meet or work with.
Your friendship has blessed us in so many ways, set
examples for us when we were younger, prayed for us,
prayed with us, shared Biblical insights and knowledge
with us, served with us on teams and in leadership
capacities, and brought such joy to our lives.
2. Emmaus has helped us to become better leaders.
3. Emmaus has helped us discover the joy of laughter
and proven that Christianity can be fun.
4. Emmaus has taught us how to serve. For me, this is
the best lesson. As an only child, I did
not know you had to take turns and put others first.
Emmaus has challenged me to always put others first
and given me opportunities to practice that.
These 4 are just to name a few.
How has Emmaus impacted your life? Send us your
stories. Emmaus is a journey and for us, my husband
and I, the trip has been worthwhile. My prayer is
that you all will partner with the Board this year and
make an effort to refresh this vital Spiritual
experience so we can continue to experience God’s
grace through friendships and servanthood and bring
that grace to others. So roll up your sleeves and
ask "Where can I help?" Looking forward to seeing
you soon.
DeColores,
Shelley McNew
